BMA Clondalkin’s trio makes podium in European cup

The Yokoso Dutch European Cup attracted over 1200 athletes from all over Europe. Ireland was well represented with clubs from Cabra, Dundalk, Derry, Offaly, Bray, Monaghan and our very own BMA Clondalkin outfit.
Finalists of the two day European Cup earned vital ranking points that will help them in the draw process at the forthcoming WAKO European Championships which will be held in Turkey in September, if of course the athletes qualify through the national championships in May.
Three members of BMA Clondalkin's elite fighting squad travelled to the Yokoso Dutch EUROPEAN CUP in the hope of racking up some vital ranking points that will assist them in the draw process of the WAKO European Championships later this year.
The trio squad of Sean Hawkins, Cayden and Roan Derwin didn't disappoint as all three reached the podium spots in their respective fighting categories finishing with 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
11 year old Roan Derwin made a brilliant start in his YC -32kg division beating his first opponent from Austria by a clear 6 points in the semi finals. He then had to contest a 2 round final with a fellow Irish team mate from the KKC kickboxing club. This time, his adversary proved too strong for the young Clondalkin champion and with it a superb silver medal.
Older sibling, 15 year old Cayden Derwin was in superb form reaching the semi finals of the KL -57kg division and the finals of the LC -57kg category. "This was Cayden's most impressive performance on the international circuit to date. This was a perfect test to prepare for the national championships in May where we expect Cayden to dominate his weight category this year".
17 year old Sean Hawkins was equally as impressive reaching the podium in both his fighting disciplines, finishing with an outstanding silver medal in the LC -74kg category, losing out to GB in the finals and a bronze in the KL-74kg division losing to the same GB opponent as in the previous discipline.

Next up for our Clondalkin fighters is a trip to Cork for the annual MUNSTER KICKBOXING OPEN on Sunday 16th April.
